The Henry Butt Trophy Award—Honouring Wedmore’s Community Champions
Every village has its heroes—the selfless individuals and groups who dedicate their time and effort to making our community a better place. The Henry Butt Trophy Award is our way of recognising these outstanding contributions to Wedmore, Blackford, and Theale.
Who Was Henry Butt?
Henry Butt was a man of vision and generosity. A successful businessman and Weston-super-Mare’s first Mayor, he played a key role in funding local projects, including raising the money for a new hospital wing that later bore his name.
To thank the people of Wedmore for their incredible fundraising efforts, he gifted a trophy to the village in the 1930s. Originally awarded for a pushball competition, it was later repurposed to recognise outstanding voluntary service to the community.
