Council Members

Bill Smart

I am originally from Yorkshire but then lived in South London for nearly 20 years before I and my family came to live in the parish over 30 years ago.

Since moving here, I have been active in many community areas, having been a governor at Hugh Sexey Middle School, secretary and then chair of the village junior football club, and vice chair of the village Playing Fields Committee. As a family, we are long-term members of a local church where I am currently a trustee and the registrar and am involved in various charitable activities.

We came to Somerset when I became Sales Director for a Wells-based engineering company and then a company in Exeter. Later I lectured in business studies at Bridgwater College before setting up a small business in electrical and property maintenance as a short-term measure, which lasted until retirement.

I am married with three adult children and four grandchildren. My main focus with the parish council is on flood prevention and alleviation, particularly flooding on the levels.
